Lesson Plan Objectives for Special Investigative Topics Course # 3232

Learning Objective: The student will be able to discuss the background and history of Child Abuse and will be aware of the statistics of Child Abuse in the U.S.

Learning Objective: The student will be able to recognize some of the facts regarding children who are abuse and neglected.

Learning Objective: The student will be able to define and discuss what Child Abuse and Neglect are, and Identify the different types of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Learning Objective:  The student will be able to identify the various characteristics of Child Abuse and Neglect, describe the four phases in the punishment cycle, define targeted Child Syndrome, and Identify when a child's injury or illness was caused by abuse.

Learning Objective: The student will be able to identify the different types of Child Sex Abuse, the Physical Indicators of Child Sex Abuse, and the Physical Indicators of Child Neglect.

Learning Objective:  The student will be able to discuss the history and background of Family Violence, will be able to identify liability issues the officers may face if they neglect their duties in protecting victims of family violence, and will be aware of the statistics regarding family violence.

Learning Objective:  The student will be able to identify and define family violence and its key components.

Learning Objective:  The student will be able to identify the role and duties of Law Enforcement Officials in family violence, including the issue of dual arrests, identifying the predominant aggressor and determining the legality of the batter.

Learning Objective:  The student will be able to identify the types of follow up that should be initiated with family violence incidents.

Learning Objective:  The student will be familiar with the different types of protective orders that fall under the Texas Family Code.

Learning Objective:   The student will be able to identify legislative changes in the Penal Code relevant to a peace officers duties involving family violence.
