Lesson Objectives for Telecommunications Operator Certification

Learning objective: The student will be able to define telecommunicator, emergency and communication.
Learning objective: The student will be able to explain the roles and responsibilities of an emergency telecommunicator at a communications center/department.
Learning objective:  The student will be able to discuss the importance of ethical judgment and behavior in telecommunications. Additionally, the student will be cognizant of the standards of conduct for state employees.
Learning objective:  The student will be able to identify some issues involving an agency's organizational structure.
Learning objective:  The student will be able to list some resources available in a communications department/center.
Learning objective:  The student will be able to explain the importance of maintaining confidentiality of information.
Learning objective:  The student will be able to articulate the responsibilities of a telecommunicator in an emergency situation.
Learning objective:  The student will be able to describe the general configuration of a wired telephone system.
Learning objective:  The student will be able to identify the Basic and the Enhanced 9-1-1 Systems. The student will also be knowledgeable about the effects of using a cellular phone to call 9-1-1.
Learning objective: The student will be able to identify an Automatic Location Identification (ALI) and an Automatic Number Identification (ANI) system, and their relation to emergency telecommunications.
